A possibly stoned Justin Bieber continues to participate in the illusion that his upcoming Comedy Central roast is an event that will somehow laugh with, rather than at, him. In the first promo for the roast, a smooth-chested, pube-lipped Bieber plays SNL's Kate McKinnon playing Justin Bieber—he must have learned how to make fun of himself by watching her—and then subjects himself to what can only be described as a pelting with raw eggs.
It's a callback to the most famous step in Bieber's evolution from insouciant teenage miscreant to adult menace, the time egged a neighbor's house, causing a reported $20,000 in damage. It's also an excuse for Bieber to get shirtless and show off his glistening, hairless chest, an opportunity he capitalizes on whenever/wherever it arises.
But Bieber's good humor about getting egged belies the truth of his Comedy Central roast. People genuinely don't like him, because he has done a number of extremely unlikeable things, and Kevin Hart and company might just take him apart. Maybe they won't "The Friars' Club Roast of Chevy Chase" take him apart, but they also might not allow him the harmless, self-deprecating stop on Bieber Rehabilitation Tour 2K15 that he seems to be expecting.
"I think it's cool to laugh at yourself — I've done some things that might not have been the greatest," he told Ellen. "I just want to be able to laugh about it, and just kind of own up to some of these things."
We'll see on March 30 whether he gets to own up or just gets owned.
