David Lynch has officially bowed out of Showtime's attempt to bring Twin Peaks back to television, and surprise, surprise, it was a money dispute.

Contract negotiations between David Lynch and Showtime are apparently not going very well: Lynch told a gallery of people this weekend, "I'm not sure at this point if [Twin Peaks is] happening" because of "complications."

As reported today in Deadline, a nine-episode, present-day sequel to Twin Peaks will premiere on Showtime in 2016, marking the 25th anniversary of the original series' ending. The original dream team is in charge: David Lynch will direct, and will co-write and produce with Mark Frost. It's rumored they're set to reunite with Kyle MacLachlan as FBI Agent and utter whackadoo Dale Cooper, and presumably any number of the other actors Lynch has continued to use throughout the years.
