Last night's CBS special Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life — An All-Star Grammy Salute featured some fantastic covers of Stevie Wonder songs (Beyoncé was typically flawless, and Jill Scott, Janelle Monáe, and India Arie harmonized the shit out of "As"), some weird covers (Lady Gaga did "I Wish," which meant we got to hear her sing, "Looking back on when I was a little nappy headed boy"), some completely useless covers (Babyface and Ariana Grande doing "Signed, Sealed, Delivered"), and one of the worst things I've ever heard in my life: tenor Andrea Bocelli signing "I Just Called to Say I Love You." God, this song is bad (by far the worst of Stevie's big hits) and this overwrought rendition makes it worse. I understand that Bocelli is gifted (and nice to listen to, if you like his sort of thing), that he was born to sing, but not this song. Any song but this song. Please, Andrea. Just hang up and back away from the phone.

Am I crazy? This received a standing ovation and it's really just wretched sounds together, like sonic chocolate and cheese. I only made it to the chorus the first time I watched. Can you make it through the whole thing?
